Axis Bank Appoints Former Bandhan Bank CFO Rajeev Mantri as Finance Chief
Axis Bank has appointed Rajeev Mantri, the former chief financial officer of Bandhan Bank, as its new CFO as the private-sector lender moves to fill a key vacancy in its senior management team.
Mantri will assume charge on September 28, 2026, shortly after completing his tenure at Bandhan Bank. His appointment follows the resignation of Axis Bank’s outgoing finance chief Puneet Sharma.
Mantri Brings Over 25 Years of Experience
Mantri is an experienced banking and finance professional with more than 25 years of experience across financial management, strategy, investor relations and corporate governance.
Before joining Axis Bank, he served as the CFO and a key managerial person at Bandhan Bank. His departure from Bandhan was announced in June, with September 25 fixed as his final working day.
His appointment gives Axis Bank an experienced finance executive at a time when Indian lenders are navigating changing interest-rate conditions, regulatory scrutiny and growing competition across retail and corporate banking.
Puneet Sharma to Leave Axis Bank
Mantri will succeed Puneet Sharma, who resigned from Axis Bank in June after serving as its CFO for more than six years. Sharma is expected to be relieved from his responsibilities at the close of business on August 31.
During his tenure, Sharma oversaw several functions beyond finance, including legal affairs and investor relations. The bank said he had stepped down to pursue the next phase of his professional career.
Appointment Strengthens Senior Leadership
As CFO, Mantri will be responsible for overseeing Axis Bank’s financial strategy, reporting, capital planning and regulatory compliance. His role will also be important in communicating the bank’s financial performance and long-term priorities to investors.
The appointment comes amid a broader reshuffling of senior leadership across India’s private banking sector, with several major lenders announcing changes in key executive positions.
