Apple Overtakes Nvidia to Become World’s Most Valuable Company

Apple briefly overtook Nvidia to become the world’s most valuable listed company after a decline in the chipmaker’s shares reshuffled the rankings of the largest global technology firms. Apple’s market capitalisation climbed to around $4.88 trillion, narrowly exceeding Nvidia’s valuation during Friday’s trading.

Nvidia Shares Fall After Record Valuation

Nvidia’s shares dropped by about 3.5%, allowing Apple to move ahead during the session. The semiconductor company had previously become the first listed business to cross the $5 trillion valuation mark, driven by soaring investor enthusiasm for artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Demand for Nvidia’s advanced graphics processors has made the company one of the biggest beneficiaries of global spending on artificial intelligence. Its chips are widely used to train and operate large AI models.

The latest market movement, however, suggested that investors may be reassessing the valuations of companies that have gained most heavily from the AI boom.

Apple Gains Despite AI Concerns

Apple has faced criticism for moving more cautiously than some rivals in developing generative artificial intelligence products. Nevertheless, investors continue to value the company’s extensive hardware ecosystem, growing services business and large base of loyal customers.

The technology giant is working to introduce more advanced AI features across the iPhone and Siri while continuing to emphasise user privacy.

Tech Valuation Race Remains Close

The competition between Apple and Nvidia remains extremely narrow, meaning their rankings can change quickly with daily movements in share prices. Nvidia reportedly recovered some ground later in the session, underlining how closely matched the two companies remain.

The shifting rankings reflect changing investor expectations as attention expands beyond chipmakers to companies capable of integrating artificial intelligence into widely used consumer products.
