Amit Shah Says BJP Will Win Bengal Polls

Home Minister Amit Shah has claimed that the BJP is on course to form the next government in West Bengal after the first phase of Assembly polling recorded a very high voter turnout.

Amit Shah Claims BJP Wave In Bengal

Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Shah said the first phase of polling showed that voters had made up their mind for political change in the state. He claimed that “Didi is leaving, the BJP is coming,” referring to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The first phase of voting was held across 152 Assembly constituencies in 16 districts and recorded around 92.98 per cent turnout, one of the highest figures in the state’s recent election history.

BJP Predicts Over 110 Seats In Phase One

Shah said the BJP’s internal assessment suggested that the party could win more than 110 of the 152 seats that voted in the first phase. He claimed that the trend would continue in the second phase and help the BJP secure a decisive majority.

The Home Minister also said that the enthusiasm seen during rallies by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leaders was reflected in the polling booths.

Mamata Banerjee Faces BJP Attack

Shah targeted the Trinamool Congress government and said Bengal voters wanted freedom from fear, corruption and political violence. He added that a BJP government would focus on women’s safety, law and order and development.

The remarks came after Mamata Banerjee said she would challenge the BJP in Delhi after winning Bengal. Shah dismissed the comment and said there was “nothing left” for her in Bengal.
