Afghanistan to Host India T20Is in Delhi
Afghanistan are set to host India for a three-match T20 international series in New Delhi in September 2026, with all three games likely to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Afghanistan-India T20I Series in Delhi
The proposed matches are expected to be held on September 13, 15 and 17. However, the complete schedule has not yet been formally announced by the Afghanistan Cricket Board or the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Afghanistan will be designated as the home team despite the series being staged in India. The arrangement reflects Afghanistan’s continued reliance on overseas venues for its home international fixtures because of logistical and security considerations.
The series would mark the first time Afghanistan has hosted India in a bilateral international contest.
Arun Jaitley Stadium Set to Host
The Arun Jaitley Stadium is expected to stage all three T20Is, reducing travel requirements during the short five-day series. The Delhi venue has regularly hosted international matches and was also used during the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup.
Afghanistan have previously used venues in India and the United Arab Emirates as adopted home grounds. Dehradun, Greater Noida and Lucknow have hosted their international matches in earlier years.
The September fixtures will add another chapter to the cricketing relationship between the two boards, with India having supported Afghanistan’s development as an international team.
India and Afghanistan Renew Rivalry
The two teams recently contested a multi-format series in India during June 2026. India won the one-off Test by an innings and 300 runs before completing a 3-0 sweep in the subsequent ODI series.
Their previous bilateral T20I series was played in India in January 2024, when the hosts won all three matches. The final game in Bengaluru required two Super Overs after the regulation contest and first tie-breaker both ended level.
Squads and match timings for the proposed September series are expected to be confirmed closer to the opening fixture.
