Afghan Taliban Strike Targets In Pakistan

Afghanistan’s Taliban government said it has carried out strikes on targets inside Pakistan’s Balochistan province, further escalating tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border after recent Pakistani airstrikes on Afghan territory.

Afghanistan Pakistan Border Tensions Escalate

Taliban officials said Afghan forces targeted suspected ISIS-linked positions across the border in Pakistan. The strikes reportedly injured several people in Balochistan, although independent confirmation of the targets and casualty figures remains limited.

The action comes shortly after Pakistan launched airstrikes in Afghanistan, claiming it had targeted militant hideouts linked to attacks inside Pakistan. Afghan authorities, however, said the Pakistani strikes killed civilians, including women and children.

Taliban Retaliation After Pakistan Airstrikes

The latest exchange has raised fears of another cycle of cross-border violence between the two neighbours. Afghanistan’s Taliban administration has warned that it will respond to threats originating near its borders, while Pakistan has repeatedly accused Kabul of allowing militant groups to operate from Afghan soil.

The Taliban has denied sheltering anti-Pakistan militants and has described Islamabad’s strikes as a violation of Afghan sovereignty. Pakistan maintains that its operations are aimed at armed groups responsible for attacks on its security forces.

Pakistan Afghanistan Relations Under Strain

Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have remained tense since the Taliban returned to power in Kabul in 2021. Disputes over the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, border security and cross-border attacks have repeatedly triggered diplomatic and military friction.

The latest strikes could further weaken previous ceasefire understandings and complicate regional efforts to prevent escalation. Both countries are under pressure to avoid a wider conflict along the already volatile border.
