13 Killed in Ukraine Drone Strike on Russia
At least 13 people, including a child, were killed and 39 others injured after Ukrainian drones struck industrial and civilian targets in Nizhnekamsk in Russia’s Tatarstan region. The attack also hit a major oil refinery, marking one of the deadliest recent Ukrainian drone strikes deep inside Russian territory.
Ukraine Drone Strike Hits Nizhnekamsk
The attack targeted Nizhnekamsk, a major industrial centre located more than 1,000 kilometres from the Ukrainian border. Residential and civilian areas were reported among the locations affected, while emergency services were deployed following the strikes.
Regional authorities announced mourning measures after the casualties, while Russian investigators opened a criminal case over the attack.
Russian Oil Refinery Hit in Attack
The drone operation also struck the TANECO oil refinery, one of Russia’s major refining facilities. The refinery forms part of the extensive energy and petrochemical infrastructure concentrated around Nizhnekamsk.
The facility has previously been targeted as Ukraine expands the reach of its domestically developed long-range drone programme against infrastructure located deep inside Russia.

Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian oil refineries and energy facilities as part of its broader strategy to disrupt infrastructure supporting Moscow’s war effort.
Russian refineries have faced repeated drone attacks in recent months, raising concerns over refining capacity and domestic fuel supplies.
The latest Nizhnekamsk strike demonstrates the growing operational range of Ukrainian drones and their ability to reach strategically important industrial centres far from the frontline.
