1 Dead, 5 Trapped in Bengaluru Building Collapse Amid Heavy Rains
Tragedy struck Bengaluru on Tuesday when an under-construction building in the Babusapalya area of East Bengaluru collapsed, claiming the life of one person.
Five others are feared trapped under the debris, while three individuals have been successfully rescued. Rescue teams have reached the site, working urgently to clear the debris and save those still trapped.
Heavy Rain Wreaks Havoc Across Bengaluru
The collapse follows days of continuous heavy rain, which has severely impacted life across Bengaluru. Waterlogging has caused significant disruptions, with residents struggling to navigate flooded streets. Schools have been forced to close, and several passengers missed flights and trains due to the deluge. In Yelahanka, an apartment complex on the city’s outskirts had to be evacuated using boats after severe flooding overwhelmed the area.
Government’s Response to the Crisis
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who also manages Bengaluru’s development portfolio, acknowledged the natural disaster’s challenges but assured the public that the government is doing everything possible to minimize the damage. “We cannot stop nature, but we are there,” he said, stressing that efforts are being made to mitigate the impact of the relentless rainfall.
Mr. Shivakumar confirmed that pumps are being deployed to drain water from low-lying areas and apartment complexes. State and national disaster response teams are actively engaged in relief operations, working to ensure that affected residents receive the assistance they need.
