Zardari Claims Pakistan Hindus Prefer Staying
Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has claimed that Hindus living in Pakistan would prefer remaining in the country rather than moving to India, while contrasting the two nations over the idea of “Akhand Bharat”. The remarks were made during Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations on August 14.

Speaking about relations with India, Zardari claimed Pakistan’s Hindu minority enjoys religious freedom and would choose to remain in Pakistan. He estimated Hindus at around 3–4% of the country’s population while making the assertion.
The statement reflects Zardari’s political assessment rather than findings from any publicly cited survey of Pakistan’s Hindu population. Questions over the treatment of religious minorities in Pakistan have remained part of wider domestic and international debate.
Zardari Raises Akhand Bharat in India Remarks
Zardari also referred to the concept of “Akhand Bharat” while contrasting India’s political outlook with Pakistan’s identity and its stated approach towards religious minorities.
His comments came amid continuing tensions between India and Pakistan and renewed political rhetoric from both sides following recent bilateral disputes and security concerns.
Pakistan Leadership Comments on India Relations
During Pakistan’s Independence Day events, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif separately said Islamabad wanted peace but warned that its preference for peace should not be interpreted as weakness.
The Pakistani leadership also raised long-standing issues involving Kashmir and water-sharing arrangements while highlighting the role of the country’s armed forces in recent tensions with India.
