Uttarakhand on Alert for Heavy Rain
Uttarakhand authorities have placed emergency and disaster-response teams on high alert after forecasts of heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. Officials warned that intense monsoon showers could trigger landslides, flash floods, waterlogging and further disruption across the Himalayan state.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Mountain districts face an elevated risk of landslides, falling rocks and sudden increases in the water levels of rivers and streams.
District administrations have been instructed to monitor vulnerable locations and maintain readiness for rescue and relief operations. Officials are also tracking weather conditions, river levels and road accessibility across the state.
Landslide and Flash Flood Risk
Continuous rainfall can destabilise slopes and block national highways, state roads and rural routes. Authorities have asked road-clearing teams and heavy machinery operators to remain prepared for the rapid removal of debris.
Residents have been advised to avoid swollen rivers, streams, waterfalls and landslide-prone slopes. People living in low-lying or vulnerable areas should follow evacuation instructions if issued by local officials and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rain.
Char Dham Pilgrims Advised Caution
Pilgrims travelling towards Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri have been asked to check official weather and traffic advisories before beginning their journeys. Movement may be regulated or temporarily stopped if pilgrimage routes become unsafe.
The State Disaster Response Force, police and district emergency teams remain prepared for possible rain-related incidents. Travellers have been urged to rely on official updates because mountain weather and road conditions can change rapidly.
The alert comes during an active phase of the monsoon, which has repeatedly disrupted roads and pilgrimage routes across Uttarakhand.
