‘Next PM Vijay 2029’ Placards Stir Modi Event
A brief political stir erupted at an official event in Chennai attended by PM Modi after supporters of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay displayed placards projecting him as the country’s “next PM” in 2029.
‘Next PM Vijay 2029’ Placards Raised in Chennai
The incident took place at the IIT Madras campus, where PM Modi was addressing a gathering after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for development projects worth more than ₹13,000 crore.
When Modi mentioned Vijay during his speech, a group believed to be supporters of the Chief Minister began cheering and displayed handwritten placards carrying Vijay’s photographs and slogans including “Next PM Vijay 2029”.
Police personnel intervened and instructed the group to lower the placards and remain seated.
Modi and Vijay Share Stage at Development Event
The event marked PM Modi’s first major visit to Tamil Nadu since Vijay’s TVK came to power in the state earlier this year.
Both leaders shared the stage and jointly inaugurated major infrastructure projects, including a new section of Chennai Metro Phase II.
Modi said the Union government would continue working with the Tamil Nadu government for the state’s development, while Vijay sought greater central support for infrastructure and pending education-related funds.
Vijay’s National Ambitions Gain Attention
The placards added momentum to growing political speculation about Vijay’s possible national role.
Some ministers in the Tamil Nadu government have already publicly described Vijay as a future prime ministerial contender, while recent opinion surveys have also included his name among national leadership choices.
However, no wider political alliance has formally projected Vijay as a prime ministerial candidate for 2029.
