US Resumes Airstrikes Against Iran
The United States has resumed airstrikes against targets inside Iran following Tehran’s attempted ballistic missile attack on American forces in Jordan. The renewed military action ended a brief pause intended to create space for diplomatic negotiations.
US Launches Retaliatory Strikes on Iran
The US military said its forces began striking Iranian targets at 8 pm Eastern Time on Wednesday. The operation was described as a forceful response to attempted attacks against American personnel stationed in the Middle East.
The precise number and location of targets were not immediately disclosed. Iranian authorities reported explosions in Khuzestan province and attacks on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
Two people were reportedly injured on Qeshm, although the full extent of the damage remained unclear.
Iran Missile Attack Targeted Jordan Base
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps earlier confirmed launching ballistic missiles towards the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, a major regional hub used by US forces.
Jordan’s military said five Iranian missiles were intercepted and destroyed before reaching their targets. No American casualties were reported in the attempted attack.
President Donald Trump subsequently warned that Washington would retaliate strongly, declaring that it was now the United States’ turn to strike.
US-Iran Conflict Risks Wider Escalation
The renewed airstrikes came as American and Saudi forces targeted Iran-aligned armed groups in Iraq. At least 20 fighters were reportedly killed, while dozens were injured.
The escalation has further weakened diplomatic attempts to restore a ceasefire and resolve disputes over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Oil prices rose sharply as concerns increased over regional energy supplies, commercial shipping and the possibility of additional attacks involving Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and other countries.
