No Fault Found in Air India Fuel Switch
The government has clarified that no abnormality was found in the fuel-control switch examined after a separate Air India Boeing 787 incident in February 2026. The tested component was not taken from the aircraft involved in the fatal Ahmedabad crash.
Boeing Finds No Fuel Switch Abnormality
Pilots operating a London-Bengaluru flight had reported that a fuel-control switch did not remain firmly locked in the “RUN” position during initial checks.
The switch panel was removed and sent to Boeing’s facility in Seattle for detailed testing under regulatory supervision. Examination of the switch and the structural integrity of its locking mechanism found no abnormality.
However, further inspection of the complete thrust-control module remains underway.
Finding Separate From Ahmedabad Crash Probe
The tested module came from the aircraft involved in the February incident and not Air India flight AI171, which crashed shortly after departing Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025.
The preliminary investigation into AI171 found that both engine fuel-control switches moved from “RUN” to “CUTOFF” shortly after take-off, interrupting fuel supply to the engines.
Investigators have not yet issued a final conclusion explaining why the switches changed position.
Final Air India Crash Report Pending
The government told Parliament that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau’s inquiry remains underway and that all probable causes and contributing factors are being examined.
Officials rejected suggestions of an investigation delay, stating that major aviation accident inquiries involve multiple technical variables and cannot always follow a predetermined timeline.
The final report will be published after the investigation is completed.
