Two United States service members were killed and another was reported missing following an Iranian missile and drone attack on American and allied forces in Jordan, further escalating the renewed conflict between Washington and Tehran. US Troops Killed in Jordan Attack US Central Command said the attack occurred on Friday as American personnel defended against Iranian ballistic missiles and drones. The identities of those killed have not yet been released. Four other service members were medically evacuated to hospitals in Jordan but were later discharged. Additional personnel treated for minor injuries have returned to duty. The latest deaths raised the number of US military personnel killed since the conflict with Iran began to 16. More than 420 American troops have reportedly been wounded during the hostilities. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth paid tribute to the personnel and said their deaths would strengthen Washington’s resolve. Iran Warns Washington of Heavier Costs Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei accused the United States of attempting to escalate the conflict and warned that Washington would face “even heavier costs and further humiliation.” Khamenei also questioned the credibility of US President Donald Trump, claiming that American actions had demonstrated that Trump’s signature was “utterly worthless and devoid of credibility.” His remarks followed the collapse of an interim ceasefire agreement signed between the two countries approximately one month earlier. US Launches Retaliatory Strikes on Iran Following the Jordan attack, President Trump ordered another round of airstrikes against Iran. The US military said the operation was intended to punish the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps personnel responsible and further weaken Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has also launched attacks against US-linked targets in Kuwait, Bahrain and other parts of the Gulf. The escalating exchanges have intensified concerns about a broader regional war and further disruption to global energy supplies.
