US-Iran Deal Has Never Been Closer – Abbas Araghchi

Iranian Foreign Minister  has said the United States and Iran have “never been closer” to an agreement aimed at ending the Middle East conflict. His remarks came amid intense speculation over a possible Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and renewed diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.

US Iran Deal Talks

Araghchi said discussions between Washington and Tehran had reached an advanced stage, but cautioned against speculation over the final contents of the agreement. He said details would be shared publicly only after the process is completed.

The statement followed reports in Iranian media claiming that a draft agreement included sanctions relief, access to frozen funds and measures linked to regional security. However, Iran has also said that no final decision has been made yet.

Islamabad Memorandum Of Understanding

The possible agreement is being referred to as the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, with Pakistan reportedly playing a mediation role. The proposed framework is expected to focus on ending hostilities, easing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and addressing nuclear-related concerns.

The talks come after months of conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel, which raised fears of a wider regional war and disrupted shipping and energy markets.

Trump Responds To Araghchi Claim

U.S. President Donald Trump later shared Araghchi’s post on Truth Social, signalling that Washington also sees progress in the negotiations. However, Trump has rejected some leaked claims about the deal terms, saying the reported version did not reflect the actual agreement.

Despite signs of progress, both sides remain cautious. Iran has said its red lines will not be compromised, while the U.S. has insisted that any benefits for Tehran must depend on compliance with agreed conditions.
