US Court Dismisses Gautam Adani Criminal Case
A US federal judge has dismissed criminal charges against Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani, ending a high-profile fraud and bribery prosecution launched in 2024. The dismissal followed a request from the US Justice Department, which decided it would no longer pursue the case.

US District Judge Nicholas Garaufis approved the government’s request to dismiss the criminal prosecution against Adani.
The case had accused Adani and other executives of involvement in an alleged scheme to pay bribes to Indian officials to secure solar power contracts and of misleading US investors.
Adani Group had consistently denied the allegations. The dismissal brings the criminal proceedings against Gautam Adani to an end and removes a major legal overhang that had followed the group since the charges were announced in November 2024.
Judge Reviews Justice Department Decision
While granting the dismissal, the judge examined how the Justice Department reached its decision to abandon the prosecution.
The court also considered whether Adani’s earlier pledge to invest $10 billion in the United States had influenced the decision. The judge ultimately found no basis to conclude that the investment commitment had affected the government’s move to drop the case.
Justice Department Drops Adani Prosecution
The Justice Department cited factors including the largely foreign nature of the alleged conduct, challenges in proving the case and changing enforcement priorities.
The dismissal represents significant legal relief for Adani. However, ending the prosecution does not amount to a judicial finding on the underlying allegations.
