BJP Tells Rahul to Withdraw Support to Soren
The BJP has challenged Rahul Gandhi to withdraw Congress support from the Hemant Soren government in Jharkhand if the demands of protesting students are not addressed. The attack came after Gandhi criticised the use of police force against job aspirants protesting alleged irregularities in state recruitment examinations.
BJP Challenges Rahul Gandhi Over Jharkhand
The BJP said Gandhi’s criticism of the police response should be followed by political action because Congress is a partner in the JMM-led Jharkhand government.
The party argued that if Gandhi genuinely opposed the treatment of protesting students, Congress should pressure the Soren government to accept their demands or withdraw its support.
BJP leaders have also accused Congress of adopting different positions on student protests depending on whether it is in government or Opposition.
Jharkhand Student Protest Escalates
Thousands of job aspirants marched towards the Jharkhand Assembly over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by state agencies.
Police used tear gas, water cannons and lathi-charge after protesters breached barricades near the Assembly. Several protesters and police personnel were injured during the confrontation.
Students have demanded cancellation of disputed examinations, reforms in the recruitment process and an independent investigation into alleged irregularities.
BJP Targets Hemant Soren Government
The BJP has intensified pressure on Chief Minister Hemant Soren over the recruitment controversy and the police response to protesting students.
The party has argued that Congress cannot criticise the crackdown while continuing to support the government responsible for handling the protests.
The controversy has increased political pressure on the ruling coalition as recruitment reforms and student demands remain unresolved.
