Ukraine and U.S. Set to Sign Joint Minerals Development Deal
Ukraine has agreed to a minerals deal with the United States, with the signing ceremony expected this Friday in Washington, D.C. The agreement focuses on the joint development of Ukraine’s mineral resources, particularly rare earth elements, which are crucial for various technologies.
Under the deal, revenues from these resources will be allocated to a newly established joint fund benefiting both nations.
Notably, earlier U.S. demands for $500 billion in potential revenue as compensation have been excluded from the final agreement. However, the deal does not explicitly provide long-term security guarantees for Ukraine, a point Kyiv had been advocating for.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to meet U.S. President Donald Trump to finalize the accord. This development comes after extensive negotiations aimed at securing continued U.S. support for Ukraine amidst its ongoing conflict with Russia.
