Two Dead in Noida Building Fire
Two people died after a fire broke out in a residential building in Noida’s Mamura village on Wednesday. Around 50 families were evacuated as thick smoke spread through the multi-storey structure in Sector 66.
Noida Building Fire Starts in Parking Area
The blaze reportedly began in the ground-floor parking area while an electric scooter was being charged. Police said a suspected spark ignited the fire, which then spread to nearby petrol-powered vehicles.
The exact cause has not yet been conclusively established and remains under investigation. Smoke from the parking area travelled upwards through the building, leaving several residents trapped on the upper floors.
The four-storey building housed approximately 50 families, with several small flats and rented rooms located on each floor.
Firefighters Evacuate Around 50 Families
Seven fire tenders, hydraulic platforms and rescue vehicles were deployed after emergency teams received information about the incident.
Firefighters evacuated residents from the smoke-filled building and brought the flames under control. Some occupants were also seen using a makeshift bamboo bridge to reach an adjoining structure during the rescue operation.
Two people who developed serious health complications after inhaling smoke were taken to the district hospital, where they were later declared dead. All other residents were evacuated safely.
Building Owner and Leaseholder Detained
Police registered a First Information Report at the Phase-3 police station following the incident. The building’s owner and leaseholder were taken into custody as investigators examined possible safety violations.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed district officials to supervise the rescue and relief operations and ensure medical treatment for those affected.
Authorities are examining the building’s fire-safety arrangements and the circumstances in which the electric vehicle was being charged.
