Terrorists Kill 7, Including Doctor and Migrant Workers, in J&K Attack
Seven people, including a doctor and six migrant workers, were killed in a terrorist attack at a construction site in the Sonamarg area of Ganderbal district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday evening.
The attack took place near an under-construction tunnel, leaving several injured.
Attack on Z-Morh Tunnel Workers
The victims were part of a construction team working on the Z-Morh tunnel, which connects Gagangeer to Sonamarg in Central Kashmir. The terrorists, believed to be at least two in number, opened fire as the workers and staff returned to their camp after a day’s work. Security forces swiftly cordoned off the area and launched a counter-operation to track down the attackers.
Security Forces and Officials Respond
Top security officials, including Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V K Birdi, rushed to the scene to assess the situation and oversee the ongoing counter-terror operation. A massive search effort has been launched to apprehend the terrorists involved in the attack.
Condemnation from Leaders
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the “dastardly” attack, expressing sorrow for the loss of innocent lives. He stated that the victims were working on a critical infrastructure project when they were targeted.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also condemned the attack, calling it a “despicable act of cowardice.” He assured that those responsible would face a strong response from the security forces and extended condolences to the families of the victims, while praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The attack, which occurred just four days after Omar Abdullah took office, highlights the persistent threat of terrorism in the region as authorities work to secure key infrastructure projects and ensure the safety of local and non-local workers.
