China Opposes US Move On Tech Firms
China has strongly opposed a US Department of Defense decision to add several major Chinese technology and industrial companies to a Pentagon list of firms Washington says are linked to China’s military. Beijing has called the move discriminatory and urged the United States to withdraw the action.
China Opposes Pentagon Company List
China’s Commerce Ministry said it was strongly dissatisfied with the US move and firmly opposed the inclusion of Chinese companies on the Pentagon’s military-linked list.
The updated list reportedly includes major names such as Alibaba, Baidu, BYD, NIO, Trina Solar and JA Solar Technology. Washington has alleged that these firms support or aid China’s military capabilities, a claim Beijing has rejected.
US China Technology Tensions Rise
The Pentagon’s list does not immediately impose a full commercial ban, but it can restrict US defence-related dealings with the named companies. Under US law, the Defence Department is expected to face limits on contracting with listed firms or buying their products and services through third parties from 2027.
The move adds fresh pressure to already strained US-China relations, particularly in technology, electric vehicles, solar energy and defence-linked supply chains.
Beijing Warns Against Unfair Treatment
China accused Washington of overstretching the concept of national security and using discriminatory measures against Chinese enterprises. Beijing said the action went against recent efforts to stabilise bilateral ties between the two countries.
Chinese authorities also warned that they would take necessary steps if Chinese companies are not treated fairly. The latest dispute shows how technology, trade and security remain central flashpoints in US-China relations.
