Tamil Nadu Polling Underway For 234 Seats

Polling is underway across Tamil Nadu on Thursday for all 234 Assembly seats in a single-phase election, with more than 5.7 crore registered voters eligible to cast their ballots. Voting began at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm, while counting is scheduled for May 4.

The election is being held across the state in one phase to choose the next Legislative Assembly. Authorities have set up more than 75,000 polling stations and deployed over 3.6 lakh polling personnel to oversee the voting process. Election officials said polling began smoothly across most parts of Tamil Nadu with steady voter turnout from the morning hours.

Four-Cornered Contest In Tamil Nadu

The contest is centred around the ruling DMK-led alliance, the AIADMK-led alliance, Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, and Naam Tamilar Katchi, making this one of the state’s most closely watched four-cornered elections in recent years. The DMK-led front is seeking another term, while the AIADMK-led bloc is trying to return to power. TVK is contesting its first Assembly election, adding a fresh dimension to the race.

Polling Arrangements And Security Measures

Election authorities said special arrangements such as ramps, drinking water and support for elderly and disabled voters have been made at polling stations. Security has also been tightened, with surveillance, webcasting and flying squads deployed to enforce the Model Code of Conduct and ensure orderly voting. Senior officials, political leaders and film personalities were among the early voters seen at booths on polling day.
