Health Minister K.G. Arunraj moved the resolution, arguing that NEET works against social justice, equality and the rights of states to determine their education policies.
The resolution received support from the DMK, AIADMK, Congress, PMK, DMDK, Left parties and other smaller parties. The BJP opposed the resolution and staged a walkout from the Assembly.
Vijay Government Seeks Class 12 Admissions
The Tamil Nadu government wants undergraduate medical admissions in the state to be conducted using students’ Class 12 marks instead of performance in a single nationwide entrance examination.
Arunraj argued that NEET has shifted students away from regular school education towards intensive private coaching. The government maintains that students from wealthier families gain an advantage because they are better able to afford expensive coaching programmes.

The resolution cited examination paper leaks, loss of young lives and concerns over unequal opportunities among the reasons for demanding NEET’s abolition.
The government maintained that Tamil Nadu was not opposed to transparency or academic standards but wanted an admission system that better protects social justice and provides opportunities for rural and economically disadvantaged students.
