At least 10 people were killed and around 100 injured after a Russian ballistic missile struck an arms exhibition near Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said. The attack has prompted an investigation into why the event was held during wartime and close to residential buildings. Russian Missile Hits Arms Exhibition The strike targeted a shooting range hosting an exhibition of Ukrainian and foreign-made weapons and drones. Promotional tents, unmanned aerial vehicles and defence company displays were present at the venue when the missile hit. Emergency workers recovered bodies from the site as they searched damaged buildings and surrounding areas. Nearby homes were also affected, with roofs destroyed, windows shattered and debris scattered across residential properties. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia used a ballistic missile in the attack. Moscow confirmed that it targeted the exhibition, claiming drones displayed there had been used in attacks inside Russian territory. Ukraine Launches Criminal Investigation Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko announced a criminal investigation to determine who authorised the event and whether organisers properly assessed the security risks under martial law. Zelenskyy criticised the decision to hold an arms exhibition involving large numbers of people near residential buildings during an ongoing war. Local officials said the municipality had not granted permission for the event. Members of Ukraine’s defence industry also called for an immediate review of safety procedures governing exhibitions, demonstrations and other public military events. Event Security Faces Scrutiny The attack has renewed concerns about publicly advertised defence gatherings without adequate shelters or emergency plans. Ukrainian officials warned that such events could become targets when their locations and schedules are promoted through social media. Russia has previously attacked Ukrainian military training grounds and defence-related gatherings. Authorities are expected to examine whether negligence, procedural failures or unauthorised planning contributed to the scale of casualties in the latest strike.
