Sensex Surges 1,600 Points, Nifty Crosses 24,300

Indian equity markets rallied sharply on Thursday, November 5, 2026, with the BSE Sensex surging more than 1,600 points and the NSE Nifty 50 crossing 24,300 during morning trading. Falling crude oil prices, renewed foreign institutional investment and improving global market sentiment following the US midterm elections supported the rally, adding approximately Rs 6.9 lakh crore to investors’ wealth.

Sensex and Nifty Extend Six-Day Winning Streak

At around 10.50 am, the Sensex had climbed 1,609.54 points, or 2.08%, to 78,910.94, while the Nifty 50 advanced 417.45 points to 24,378.05.

The rally extended the benchmarks’ winning streak to six consecutive sessions, with both indices approaching three-month highs.

Buying was widespread across banking, automobile, real estate and information technology stocks. The Nifty Private Bank index gained approximately 2.55%, while broader mid-cap and small-cap indices also advanced.

Falling Crude Oil Prices Boost Investor Confidence

Brent crude declined to approximately $93.50 per barrel, following an 8.7% fall in the previous session.

The correction came after the US midterm elections, with investors assessing whether the Democrats’ gains in Congress could influence the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

Lower crude prices are particularly important for India because reduced petroleum import costs can ease inflationary pressures and support the rupee.

The Indian currency strengthened to approximately 94.35 against the US dollar during early trading, its strongest opening level in two weeks.

Foreign Investors Return to Indian Equity Markets

Foreign institutional investors purchased Indian equities worth approximately Rs 7,284 crore on Wednesday, extending their buying streak to four sessions.

Total foreign inflows during the first three trading sessions of November reached approximately Rs 17,235 crore.

Oil-sensitive stocks also benefited, with Asian Paints and InterGlobe Aviation recording gains during morning trading.

Despite the rally, market participants continued monitoring crude oil prices, geopolitical developments and foreign investment flows for signs of sustained momentum.
