2026 World Cup hosting – Bharat Pulse News

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has defended the United States as a 2026 World Cup host amid growing scrutiny over visa issues and entry denials, saying FIFA cannot decide government immigration policy. FIFA Defends US World Cup Hosting Infantino said FIFA remains confident in the United States as one of the three host nations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, alongside Canada and Mexico. His comments came after concerns were raised over visa handling and entry restrictions linked to the tournament. The issue gained attention after Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan was denied entry into the US despite being named for the World Cup. The incident triggered questions over whether visa restrictions could affect officials, players, fans and delegations. Visa Row Puts FIFA Under Pressure Infantino said FIFA is working with authorities to find solutions but stressed that immigration decisions remain under the control of governments. He said FIFA is a sports body and cannot overrule national entry policies. The controversy has added pressure on organisers ahead of the expanded 48-team tournament. The World Cup is expected to draw large numbers of fans and officials from across the world, making smooth visa processing a major operational concern. World Cup Entry Denials Raise Concerns The entry denial involving Artan has raised broader concerns about the tournament’s inclusivity and accessibility. Critics have questioned how FIFA can guarantee a global event if participants face barriers at the border. Infantino, however, defended the US role as host and urged focus on the tournament. FIFA has maintained that it is in contact with governments to manage visa and entry-related challenges before the competition begins.
