Sukma Encounter: 10 Maoists Killed, Weapons Recovered

In a major breakthrough in anti-Naxal operations, security forces neutralized 10 Maoists in an intense encounter in Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, on Friday.

The operation, conducted in the dense jungles of Korajuguda, Dantewada, Nagaram, and Bhandarpadar, involved joint efforts by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sunderaj P confirmed the operation, stating that the teams acted on intelligence inputs regarding Maoist activity in the region. “We have recovered several weapons, including INSAS rifles, AK-47s, and SLRs. Identification of the bodies is underway,” he added.

The encounter reflects a significant push in the ongoing efforts to combat Maoist insurgency in the state. Security forces are continuing their search operations in the area, with further details awaited.

Recent Maoist Encounters

This latest encounter follows another incident on Thursday, where a Maoist was killed in a gunfight along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border in Malakangiri district. The security forces have intensified operations in these regions, targeting Maoist strongholds and disrupting their networks.

Government’s Anti-Naxal Initiatives

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai recently met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi to discuss development initiatives in Naxal-affected areas. Both leaders reviewed progress in curbing insurgency and promoting peace in the state.

The Chief Minister highlighted the significant strides made in tackling Naxalism, revealing that over 200 Maoists have been eliminated and around 600-700 have surrendered in the past 11 months.

“We are committed to eradicating Naxalism by 2026, in line with the Prime Minister’s and Home Minister’s vision of making India a Naxal-free country,” CM Sai said.

Strategic Focus

Chhattisgarh’s intensified operations and developmental efforts aim to root out insurgency, while the collaboration between the state and central governments underscores a unified approach to ensure peace and stability in affected regions.
