VD Satheesan To Be Kerala Chief Minister

V.D. Satheesan will be the next Chief Minister of Kerala after the Congress leadership ended days of uncertainty over the top post. The decision came after consultations within the party and pressure from United Democratic Front allies following the alliance’s victory in the Assembly election.

V.D. Satheesan Chosen As Kerala Chief Minister

The Congress high command picked Satheesan to lead the new UDF government despite internal discussions indicating support for other senior leaders. Reports said several Congress MLAs had backed K.C. Venugopal during consultations, while Satheesan received strong support from UDF allies and party workers.

The Congress Legislature Party had earlier authorised the central leadership to take the final decision. The announcement now clears the way for government formation in Kerala after days of suspense following the election results.

Congress Ends Kerala Leadership Suspense

Satheesan had emerged as one of the most visible faces of the UDF campaign against the LDF. His leadership during the campaign, public outreach, and support from alliance partners are understood to have strengthened his claim for the Chief Minister’s post.

UDF allies, including the Indian Union Muslim League, reportedly played a key role in backing Satheesan. Party workers had also openly projected him as the next Chief Minister through posters, social media campaigns, and public demonstrations.

UDF Victory Strengthens Satheesan’s Position

Satheesan’s elevation marks a major milestone in his political career. A five-time MLA from Paravur, he built his political base through student activism and grassroots work in Ernakulam district.

He is widely seen within the Congress as an organiser and campaign strategist. His supporters credit him with helping rebuild the UDF’s momentum in Kerala, including through byelection gains and the alliance’s strong performance in recent electoral contests.
