Siddaramaiah Rejects Rajya Sabha Offer
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reportedly declined the Congress high command’s offer of a Rajya Sabha seat and a national political role, saying he has no interest in moving to Delhi politics.
Siddaramaiah Declines National Politics Role
Siddaramaiah is said to have informed the Congress leadership that he wants to remain active in Karnataka politics rather than shift to Parliament. The offer was reportedly discussed as part of the party’s efforts to manage the leadership transition in the state.
The veteran Congress leader has served as Karnataka Chief Minister twice and remains one of the party’s strongest mass leaders in the state. His refusal indicates that he may prefer to continue as an MLA and retain influence within Karnataka politics.
Congress Manages Karnataka Leadership Change
The reported offer came amid the ongoing transition in Karnataka, with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expected to take over the chief ministerial post after months of speculation over a power-sharing understanding.
Siddaramaiah’s position has remained important because any leadership change requires careful handling of caste, regional and organisational equations within the Karnataka Congress.
DK Shivakumar Set For Bigger Role
Shivakumar has long been seen as the main claimant for the Chief Minister’s post after playing a central role in Congress’s 2023 Assembly election campaign. The leadership change is expected to give him a larger role in running the state government.
However, Siddaramaiah’s decision to stay away from national politics means the Congress may still need to balance both leaders’ camps to maintain stability in Karnataka.
