Shreyas Iyer Set To Become India T20I Captain
Shreyas Iyer is reportedly set to replace Suryakumar Yadav as India’s T20I captain, with the selectors expected to finalise the squad for upcoming white-ball assignments soon.
Shreyas Iyer To Replace Suryakumar Yadav
Iyer has emerged as the leading choice to take charge of India’s T20I team after concerns over Suryakumar Yadav’s recent form. The captaincy change is expected to be formally confirmed when the selection committee meets to pick the squad for the Ireland and England tours.
Tilak Varma is also reportedly in line to be named vice-captain, as India looks to build a younger leadership group for the next T20 cycle.
India T20I Captaincy Change Ahead Of Tours
India’s next T20I assignment will be against Ireland, followed by a white-ball tour of England. The leadership change is being viewed as part of a broader plan for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the next T20 World Cup.
Suryakumar had led India in the format, but his place in the squad is now under scrutiny after a prolonged batting slump and a disappointing IPL season.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Set For Maiden Call-Up
Teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is also reportedly set for his maiden India call-up, underlining the selectors’ push to test young talent in the shorter format.
The final squad announcement will confirm whether India moves ahead with Iyer as captain, Tilak as deputy and a refreshed T20I setup for the coming cycle.
