SBI to Add 500 New Branches, Network to Hit 23,000 by FY25
State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest public sector lender, is set to open 500 new branches by the end of the financial year 2025, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced during a recent address. The expansion will bolster SBI’s already extensive network, which currently stands at approximately 22,500 branches across India.
Strengthening Financial Inclusion
The expansion aligns with the government’s focus on deepening financial inclusion, especially in underserved and rural areas. The additional branches will help SBI cater to a wider customer base, ensuring accessibility to banking services for millions more.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to making banking services available to every Indian,” said Sitharaman, emphasizing the importance of robust financial infrastructure in driving economic growth.
Achieving Milestones
With the addition of these 500 branches, SBI’s total branch network will reach an impressive 23,000 by FY25. This milestone underscores the bank’s role in supporting India’s financial ecosystem through enhanced service delivery and outreach.
The move also complements the government’s efforts to strengthen digital and physical banking channels, ensuring seamless integration of technology and human touch in India’s banking sector.
