2 Dead, Dozens Hurt in Georgia Party Shooting
Two people were killed and nearly three dozen others injured after gunfire erupted during a large homecoming block party in Vienna, Georgia, early Sunday, triggering a major investigation involving local police and state authorities.
Two Killed in Georgia Homecoming Shooting
The shooting occurred during a large gathering spread across several blocks in Vienna, a small city in Dooly County.
Authorities identified the two people killed as 21-year-old Jaquevion Jackson of Cordele and 23-year-old Macaleb Jackson of Hawkinsville.
Officials said up to 35 people were injured, with victims ranging in age from teenagers to adults in their 50s. Some of the wounded were reported to be in critical condition and were taken to multiple hospitals.
More Than 50 Shots Fired at Block Party
Investigators said more than 50 shots were fired from at least two separate locations during the gathering, which was attended by more than 1,000 people.
The shooting caused widespread panic as attendees attempted to flee the area.
Authorities stressed that the gathering was not an official school-sponsored homecoming event, although it took place during a weekend of celebrations linked to a local high school homecoming.
Georgia Police Investigate Motive and Suspects
No arrests had been announced as investigators worked to determine who opened fire and what triggered the violence.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting local law enforcement with the case.
Officials are reviewing evidence, interviewing witnesses and trying to establish whether multiple shooters were involved.
Local schools are expected to reopen with additional security measures as the community responds to the deadly attack.
