US Seeks Russia-Ukraine Talks Before October Ends
The United States wants to convene a new round of peace talks involving Russia and Ukraine before the end of October, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said, as Washington seeks to revive negotiations aimed at ending the war.
US Pushes for Russia-Ukraine Talks This Month
Zelensky said Washington has proposed another trilateral meeting bringing together representatives from the United States, Ukraine and Russia.
He said the US wants the talks to take place before the end of October, although no date or venue has yet been finalised.
Previous rounds of diplomacy have failed to produce a lasting ceasefire, with major differences remaining over territory, security guarantees and the conditions for ending hostilities.
Zelensky Calls for Pressure on Russia
The Ukrainian president said negotiations would only be meaningful if accompanied by sustained pressure on Moscow.
Kyiv has repeatedly argued that Russia must face stronger economic and military pressure if diplomatic efforts are to produce concrete results.
The latest push comes as fighting intensifies, with Russia stepping up strikes across Ukraine and Kyiv increasing attacks on Russian energy infrastructure.
Peace Efforts Resume After Diplomatic Slowdown
US-led peace efforts had slowed in recent months as Washington focused heavily on the conflict with Iran and other international crises.
However, American officials have continued separate contacts with both Moscow and Kyiv. Recent discussions have included possible arrangements covering energy infrastructure and Black Sea shipping.
India, Turkey and other countries have also been involved in separate diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing hostilities.
Zelensky said Ukraine remains open to talks but reiterated that any agreement must protect the country’s sovereignty and security.
