Russian Missile Hits ArcelorMittal Ukraine Plant

A Russian missile strike has hit the ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih steel plant in central Ukraine, killing two people and injuring at least 13 others. The attack damaged key production facilities and forced the company to partially suspend operations at one of Ukraine’s largest steelmaking complexes.

Russian Missile Hits ArcelorMittal Ukraine Plant

The strike hit the sprawling industrial facility in Kryvyi Rih during overnight attacks on August 15-16. The plant is operated by global steelmaker ArcelorMittal, whose executive chairman is Indian-origin billionaire Lakshmi Mittal.

Those killed and injured included personnel connected with the plant and contracting organisations. Emergency crews carried out rescue and search operations following the missile attack.

Kryvyi Rih Steel Production Partially Halted

The missile caused damage to important production infrastructure, including facilities associated with power generation and blast-furnace operations.

ArcelorMittal said production processes at the Kryvyi Rih complex were partially halted following the damage. The extent of the disruption and the timeline for restoring normal operations have not yet been confirmed.

The plant is a major part of Ukraine’s steel industry and has continued operating despite repeated disruptions caused by the war.

Russia-Ukraine Strikes Hit Industrial Infrastructure

The Kryvyi Rih attack formed part of a wider wave of Russian missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, with several regions reporting attacks on infrastructure and other targets.

Ukraine has also continued launching long-range drone strikes against targets inside Russia as both sides intensify attacks beyond the immediate front lines.

The latest strike highlights the continuing risks faced by Ukraine’s industrial sector as the conflict places pressure on production, logistics and energy infrastructure.
