Railways Approves Kiul-Jhajha Third Line
Indian Railways has approved the 54-km Kiul-Jhajha third railway line project in Bihar at an estimated cost of Rs 962 crore to improve train capacity on the busy Howrah-Delhi corridor.
Kiul-Jhajha Third Line Project
The new Kiul-Jhajha third line will strengthen a key stretch of the high-density railway network. The section currently carries heavy passenger and freight traffic, making additional capacity important for smoother train operations.
The project is expected to reduce congestion, improve operational flexibility and support better punctuality for trains moving through the route. It will also help Indian Railways handle future growth in traffic demand on the corridor.
Howrah-Delhi Rail Corridor Capacity
The Kiul-Jhajha section is part of the wider Howrah-Delhi route, one of the country’s most important passenger and freight corridors. The third line will create extra path availability for trains, allowing more efficient movement between eastern and northern India.
Railway officials expect the project to improve both passenger services and freight movement. Better capacity on this stretch is also likely to help industries and trade networks that depend on regular rail connectivity.
Bihar Railway Infrastructure Boost
The Rs 962 crore approval is part of the government’s wider push to upgrade railway infrastructure in Bihar and other high-traffic regions. Once completed, the third line will help ease pressure on the existing double-line section between Kiul and Jhajha.
The project is also expected to support regional development by improving connectivity for passengers, logistics operators and businesses along the route.
