PM Modi Pushes Terror-Free Region at SCO
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a four-day visit to Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic, saying India will push for a region free from terrorism, separatism and extremism while strengthening security, connectivity and economic cooperation across Central Asia.

Ahead of his departure on August 29, Modi said India would use the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation platform to advance its priorities of “Security, Connectivity and Opportunity”.
He said terrorism, separatism and extremism continue to threaten peace and stability in India’s neighbourhood and beyond, and stressed the need for SCO members to work collectively against these challenges.
India has been a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation since 2017.
Modi Begins Uzbekistan State Visit
Modi’s first stop is Tashkent, where he will hold delegation-level talks with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on August 29 and 30.
The leaders will review cooperation in trade and investment, defence, digital connectivity, energy, education and people-to-people ties.
They are also expected to discuss aligning India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 ambitions with Uzbekistan’s development priorities. Modi will visit the Shastri Memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre in Tashkent during the trip.
PM Modi to Attend SCO Summit in Bishkek
From Uzbekistan, Modi will travel to Bishkek for the 26th SCO Summit on August 31 and September 1.
The summit marks 25 years of the organisation and is expected to focus on regional security, connectivity, trade and economic cooperation.
Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with SCO leaders on the sidelines and attend the opening ceremony of the sixth World Nomad Games.
