Zelenskyy Warns Russia Preparing Major Ukraine Strike
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that intelligence indicates Russia is preparing another large-scale missile and drone attack on Ukraine. The warning comes as Kyiv seeks stronger air defences ahead of winter and pushes for a reciprocal halt to attacks on energy infrastructure.
Zelenskyy Warns of New Russian Mass Attack
Zelenskyy said Ukrainian intelligence had detected preparations for a major Russian strike but did not disclose details about possible targets, timing or the scale of the expected operation.
He issued the warning after meeting UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The two leaders discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defences and providing additional support to protect the country’s energy infrastructure during the approaching winter.
Ukraine Seeks Energy Ceasefire With Russia
Following talks with US President Donald Trump, Zelenskyy said Ukraine remained prepared to stop attacks on Russian energy facilities if Moscow agreed to halt strikes against Ukraine’s electricity, heating and water infrastructure.
Kyiv has expanded long-range attacks against Russian oil refineries and other energy facilities, while Russia has repeatedly targeted Ukrainian power and fuel infrastructure.
No formal energy ceasefire has yet been agreed.
Zelenskyy Calls for Stronger Russia Sanctions
Zelenskyy also argued against easing sanctions on Moscow while Russian missile and drone attacks continue.
He said economic pressure should remain in place and be strengthened until the war ends.
Ukraine is simultaneously seeking additional air-defence equipment, including Patriot systems and interceptors, as concerns grow that Russia could intensify attacks against critical infrastructure during the colder months.
