PCB Seeks Explanation from ICC Over Omission of Pakistan’s Name in Broadcast Logo
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has formally approached the International Cricket Council (ICC) seeking clarification regarding the absence of Pakistan’s name in the Champions Trophy 2025 branding during the live broadcast of the India vs. Bangladesh match held in Dubai on February 20, 2025. Throughout the match, the broadcast displayed the event title as “Champions Trophy 2025” without mentioning Pakistan as the host nation, a deviation from previous matches where the host’s name was prominently featured.
In response to the PCB’s concerns, the ICC has indicated that the omission resulted from an early technical error. However, this explanation has not satisfied the PCB, especially since the correct branding was displayed during the tournament’s opening match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi, as well as in subsequent games. The PCB is seeking assurances from the ICC to prevent such oversights in future broadcasts.
The issue of match venues has been a point of contention leading up to the tournament. While Pakistan was awarded hosting rights for the entire event, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cited governmental restrictions preventing the Indian team from playing in Pakistan. This led to an agreement allowing India’s matches to be held at neutral venues, specifically in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). As a reciprocal measure, Pakistan has agreed not to travel to India for any ICC events over the next three years, with their matches also scheduled at neutral locations.
The ICC has maintained that the incident was a technical glitch and has assured that future broadcasts will correctly display the host nation’s name, irrespective of the match location. The upcoming high-profile match between India and Pakistan, set to take place in Dubai, will be closely monitored to ensure compliance with proper branding protocols.
