16 Delhi Metro Stations Shut Amid CJP Protest
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation temporarily closed 16 stations across central Delhi on Wednesday, citing security concerns as the CJP-led protest at Jantar Mantar continued.

The stations closed until further instructions were Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh and Shivaji Stadium.
Trains continued to operate across the affected corridors but did not allow passengers to enter or exit at the closed stations. Interchange facilities remained available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat, enabling passengers to transfer between Metro lines.
DMRC advised commuters to monitor official service updates and consider alternative routes.
CJP Protest Prompts Security Measures
The closures were introduced as the CJP-led agitation at Jantar Mantar continued following Monday’s “Sansad Chalo” march. Protesters have demanded accountability over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Monday’s demonstration became violent after sections of the crowd attempted to cross police barricades while marching towards Parliament. Police used batons and tear gas to disperse protesters, and injuries were reported among demonstrators and security personnel.
Five central Delhi Metro stations had also been closed during Monday’s march.
Delhi Commuters Face Disruption
Wednesday’s wider shutdown affected several major interchange points and stations serving business districts, government offices and educational institutions. Passengers reported delays, unexpected route changes and difficulty finding alternative transport during the morning rush.
The station closures also increased road traffic in parts of central Delhi as commuters shifted to buses, taxis and private vehicles. Authorities maintained a heightened security presence around Jantar Mantar, Parliament and nearby government buildings.
No confirmed reopening time was announced, with the restrictions remaining subject to security assessments.
