Pakistan Claims 29 Militants Killed in Afghanistan Border

Pakistan has said its security forces killed 29 militants during an intelligence-based operation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, followed by strikes on suspected militant hideouts in Afghanistan, a day after a deadly attack on a Rangers facility in Karachi.

Pakistan Afghanistan Border Operation

Pakistan’s government said the operation targeted militants linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, groups blamed for a series of recent attacks on security forces. Officials said the action was carried out in response to the Karachi assault and wider militant activity near the border.

The claim of 29 militants killed has not been independently verified. Afghanistan’s Taliban administration condemned the strikes and said civilians were among those killed or wounded.

Karachi Rangers Attack

The cross-border escalation followed a militant attack on a Sindh Rangers facility in Karachi. Attackers reportedly used an explosives-laden vehicle before opening fire, triggering a gun battle with security forces.

Three Pakistani Rangers personnel were killed in the attack, while security forces killed three attackers and captured another suspect. Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a faction associated with the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the assault.

Pakistan Taliban Tensions

The incident has further strained relations between Islamabad and Kabul. Pakistan has repeatedly accused Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government of allowing militants to operate from Afghan territory. Kabul has denied the allegation and says Pakistan’s military actions violate Afghan sovereignty.

Pakistan has also made allegations of external involvement in such attacks, but no public evidence has been presented to support those claims. India has rejected Pakistan’s accusations and urged Islamabad to address terrorism within its own territory.

The latest flare-up highlights the continuing security instability along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and the growing threat posed by militant groups targeting Pakistani forces.
