Operation Epic Fury Ends After Iran Action
The United States has declared the conclusion of Operation Epic Fury, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio saying the military objectives of the Iran campaign have been achieved amid continuing tensions in the Gulf region.
US Says Iran Operation Objectives Achieved
Rubio said Operation Epic Fury had reached its intended goals and that the direct military campaign against Iran had now ended. The statement came after weeks of conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, which had sharply raised fears of a wider regional war.
The operation was presented by Washington as a targeted campaign linked to Iran’s military and nuclear capabilities. However, US officials have also acknowledged that Iran still retains a stockpile of highly enriched uranium, keeping diplomatic concerns alive.
Project Freedom Separate From Iran Campaign
Rubio clarified that Project Freedom, the US effort to secure maritime movement through the Strait of Hormuz, is separate from Operation Epic Fury. Project Freedom focuses on helping commercial vessels and protecting shipping routes affected by the Gulf crisis.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a major concern because a large share of global oil and gas shipments passes through the waterway. Continued instability has affected shipping movement and raised concerns over energy prices.
Trump Administration Faces War Powers Questions
The declaration that Operation Epic Fury has ended also comes amid scrutiny in Washington over the legal limits of military action. US lawmakers have questioned whether the Trump administration required congressional approval for extended operations against Iran.
By declaring the campaign concluded, the administration is seeking to frame the action as limited and completed. However, the broader crisis is not over, with the US blockade on Iran continuing and diplomatic efforts still underway to address Iran’s nuclear material and Gulf security.
