Russian Strikes Kill 27 In Ukraine

Russian drone and missile attacks killed at least 27 people across Ukraine, including five at state-run Naftogaz gas facilities, just days before Moscow’s announced two-day ceasefire.

Russian Attack Hits Naftogaz Facility

Ukraine’s state-run gas company Naftogaz said Russian strikes targeted gas facilities in the Poltava and Kharkiv regions overnight. The attack killed three employees and two rescue workers, while also causing major damage and production losses.

Naftogaz said the strike involved drones and ballistic missiles. The attack also disrupted gas supplies to nearly 3,500 customers, adding pressure on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Ukraine Reports Deadly Strikes Across Regions

The wider Russian assault hit several regions of Ukraine. Officials said at least 12 people were killed in Zaporizhzhia after glide bombs struck a car repair shop and residential buildings. Twenty others were injured in the attack.

In Kramatorsk, six people were killed and 12 injured, while four more deaths were reported in Dnipro. Ukrainian officials said the attacks came shortly before Russia’s unilateral May 8-9 ceasefire was due to begin.

Zelenskyy Condemns Russian Missile Attacks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, calling them cynical and senseless. Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched 11 ballistic missiles and 164 drones from Monday evening, with several missiles and drones hitting multiple locations.

The strikes have again highlighted Ukraine’s need for stronger air defence systems, especially against ballistic missiles. The attacks also raised doubts over Moscow’s ceasefire announcement, as fighting continued ahead of the proposed pause.
