Nana Patekar Dies at 75 After Cardiac Arrest

Veteran actor Nana Patekar, one of the most distinctive performers in Hindi and Marathi cinema, died on Thursday, October 8, at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa.

Patekar was found unconscious at his home in Dona Paula during the early hours and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Doctors attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation for around 45 minutes but were unable to revive him. His son Malhar Patekar confirmed the death and said the actor had died of natural causes.

A medico-legal case has been registered and a post-mortem examination is expected as part of standard procedure.

Parinda and Krantiveer Star Leaves Lasting Legacy

Patekar began his film career with Gaman in 1978 after establishing himself in theatre. Over nearly five decades, he became known for his intense dialogue delivery and powerful screen presence.

His performances in films including Parinda, Krantiveer, Prahaar, Agni Sakshi and Natsamrat earned widespread acclaim. He also displayed his comic abilities as Uday Shetty in the popular Welcome franchise.

Patekar won multiple National Film Awards during his career and was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2013.

Tributes have poured in from actors, filmmakers and political leaders following news of his death.

Beyond cinema, Patekar was also associated with social initiatives, particularly support for farmers through the Naam Foundation.

His death brings to an end a career that bridged Hindi and Marathi cinema and produced some of Indian film’s most memorable performances.
