Mumbai Rains Trigger Red Alert

Heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Thursday morning, triggering severe waterlogging in several parts of the city and disrupting road and rail movement. The India Meteorological Department issued a short-duration red alert for Mumbai and neighbouring districts, warning of intense rain spells at isolated places.

Mumbai Rains Cause Severe Waterlogging

Several areas in Mumbai reported waterlogging after heavy monsoon showers continued from the early morning hours. Roads in Andheri, King’s Circle and Gandhi Market were inundated, affecting vehicular movement and slowing the daily commute across the city.

Waterlogging was also reported near Dadar railway station, where accumulated rainwater affected tracks. Civic and traffic authorities remained on alert as intense showers continued across several low-lying areas.

IMD Red Alert For Mumbai And MMR

The IMD issued a nowcast red warning for Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban, Thane, Palghar and Raigad, forecasting intense spells of rain at isolated places for a short duration. Residents were advised to avoid weak structures, waterlogged stretches, trees and electric poles.

The alert came as the city recorded widespread heavy rainfall across the island city, eastern suburbs and western suburbs, with several locations crossing the 200 mm mark in a 24-hour period.

Heavy Rainfall Recorded Across Mumbai

Mulund recorded 230.8 mm of rainfall, while Mankhurd Fire Station reported 228.6 mm and S Ward Office recorded 227 mm. In the island city, F South Ward Office recorded 223.8 mm, while Wadala also crossed 200 mm.

In the western suburbs, Santacruz and Andheri reported heavy rainfall, with several locations recording more than 200 mm. The IMD has also warned of very heavy rain over Konkan, Goa and parts of south Gujarat in the coming days.
