Marco Rubio Begins Four-Day India Visit
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio began a four-day visit to India on Saturday, with stops planned in Kolkata, New Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. The visit is being watched closely as Washington and New Delhi look to stabilise ties after recent strains over trade, tariffs and regional diplomacy.
Marco Rubio India Visit Focuses On Bilateral Ties
Rubio’s India visit is expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in trade, defence, energy, technology and regional security. He is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hold discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during the visit.
The trip comes at a sensitive time for India-U.S. relations, with both sides working to manage differences over tariffs, market access and Washington’s recent outreach to countries in India’s neighbourhood.
Quad Talks And Indo-Pacific Security On Agenda
Rubio’s visit also comes ahead of discussions linked to the Quad framework, which includes India, the United States, Japan and Australia. The grouping remains an important platform for cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, particularly on maritime security, supply chains, technology and regional stability.
The United States sees India as a key strategic partner in the region, while New Delhi continues to balance its foreign policy priorities with strategic autonomy.
Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur And New Delhi On Itinerary
Rubio’s itinerary includes Kolkata, New Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. In Kolkata, he is expected to visit key cultural and historical sites before heading for official engagements in the national capital.
The visit is being seen as an effort to reset momentum in the relationship and prepare the ground for deeper cooperation between the two countries. While differences remain, both governments are expected to use the visit to underline the long-term importance of the India-U.S. partnership.
