Magnitude 4.5 Quake Hits Off Andhra Coast

A moderate earthquake measuring 4.5 struck the Bay of Bengal off the Andhra Pradesh coast early on Sunday, with mild tremors felt across several parts of Visakhapatnam. No casualties or property damage were reported.

The earthquake was recorded at 5.05 a.m. on July 12 at a depth of approximately 10 kilometres.

Its epicentre was located around 225 kilometres off the Kakinada coast in the Bay of Bengal, at latitude 16.805 degrees north and longitude 84.381 degrees east.

The shallow earthquake caused noticeable but mild tremors in coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh.

Tremors Felt Across Visakhapatnam

Residents reported feeling vibrations in Gajuwaka, Mangalapalem, Sagar Nagar, Pedda Waltair, Arilova, MVP Colony, Appughar and other parts of Visakhapatnam.

The tremors caused brief concern among some residents, but authorities said there was no widespread panic.

No damage to buildings, public infrastructure or property was reported following the seismic activity. There were also no reports of injuries or casualties.

No Tsunami Warning Issued

Officials monitored the situation following the earthquake, but no tsunami warning was issued for the Andhra Pradesh coastline.

Experts described the event as a moderate and shallow earthquake resulting from structural adjustments beneath the Bay of Bengal.

Authorities said the tremors were not considered dangerous and advised residents against panic. Disaster-management and monitoring agencies continued to assess seismic activity in the region as a precaution.
