India has condemned the attack on the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy in the Strait of Hormuz after one Indian crew member went missing. Ten other Indian nationals aboard the Cyprus-flagged ship were rescued as search operations continued off Oman’s coast.

The GFS Galaxy reportedly caught fire and suffered significant damage after being attacked while travelling through the Strait of Hormuz.

All 11 Indian nationals aboard the vessel were forced to abandon the ship. Ten were subsequently rescued, while one crew member remained unaccounted for.

The Indian Embassy in Oman is coordinating with local authorities and monitoring the continuing search-and-rescue operation.

India Condemns Attack on Commercial Vessel

The Ministry of External Affairs condemned the attack and described repeated assaults on commercial shipping in the region as “deeply worrisome.”

India stressed that commercial vessels and civilian infrastructure must not be targeted under international law.

New Delhi also called for the restoration of free and uninterrupted navigation and commerce through international waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz.

India Calls for Immediate De-escalation

India urged the countries involved in the conflict to immediately reduce tensions and pursue a diplomatic settlement.

The attack occurred amid renewed hostilities between the United States and Iran. Washington launched further military strikes after accusing Tehran of attacking the vessel, while Iran claimed that the ship had travelled through an unauthorised route.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global shipping passage used for transporting oil and natural gas. Continuing attacks in the region have increased risks for civilian seafarers, disrupted maritime traffic and raised concerns about international energy supplies.
