Madras HC Flags Vijay Affidavit Discrepancy
Actor-politician Vijay has come under legal scrutiny after the Madras High Court sought responses over an alleged discrepancy of more than Rs 100 crore in the assets disclosed in his election affidavits. The matter relates to affidavits filed for two constituencies in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with the court taking note of claims that the declared figures do not match.
Madras High Court Seeks Response From Vijay
The Madras High Court issued notice to Vijay, the Election Commission of India and the Income Tax Department on a plea alleging inconsistencies in his poll disclosures. The bench asked the concerned parties to respond after a petitioner argued that there were major variations in the financial details submitted by the TVK chief. The case has now opened up legal and political attention around the accuracy of election-time declarations.

According to the plea, Vijay filed separate Form 26 affidavits for Perambur and Tiruchi East, and the asset figures disclosed in them showed a difference of over Rs 100 crore. Reports indicate that one affidavit listed assets of about Rs 115.13 crore, while the other mentioned around Rs 220.15 crore. The court reportedly observed that such a difference appeared to be an irregularity, prompting it to seek an explanation from all sides before proceeding further.
Vijay Election Affidavit Row Gains Political Attention
The development comes at a sensitive time as Vijay’s political profile continues to grow in Tamil Nadu. Election affidavits are key legal documents meant to provide voters with accurate information on a candidate’s financial background, liabilities and criminal cases, if any. Any major mismatch in these filings can trigger questions over transparency and compliance, making this case significant beyond just one candidate’s paperwork.
