Kerala Confirms Fresh Nipah Case
Kerala has confirmed a fresh Nipah virus case in Kozhikode, with the infected patient currently on ventilator support. Health authorities have intensified surveillance, traced contacts and placed high-risk individuals under quarantine to prevent further spread.
Kerala Nipah Virus Case Confirmed
The confirmed Nipah case involves a man from Kozhikode district who is undergoing treatment at Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode. The patient is reported to be in critical condition and is receiving ventilator support in the intensive care unit.
The infection was confirmed after laboratory testing, following which the State health department activated containment and surveillance measures in the affected area.
Kozhikode Nipah Contact Tracing
Health officials have traced 77 people who came in contact with the patient. Among them, 15 have been identified as high-risk contacts and placed under quarantine as a precautionary measure.
Authorities are monitoring all listed contacts for symptoms such as fever, headache, breathing difficulty, confusion or neurological complications. Hospitals in the region have also been asked to remain alert and follow infection-control protocols.
Kerala Health Department Advisory
The health department has urged the public not to panic, while advising caution and cooperation with surveillance teams. People have been asked to avoid contact with bats, partially eaten fruits and suspected contaminated food sources.
Nipah is a zoonotic virus that can spread from animals to humans and, in some cases, through close contact with infected persons. Kerala has dealt with Nipah outbreaks in the past, and officials are relying on early detection, isolation and contact tracing to contain the latest case.
Further updates are expected after continued monitoring of the patient and all identified contacts.
