Kane Williamson to Miss Second Test Against India Due to Groin Injury
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the second Test against India due to a groin strain.
The injury, sustained during the recent series against Sri Lanka, continues to sideline Williamson as he undergoes rehabilitation.
New Zealand currently lead the three-match series 1-0 after securing an eight-wicket victory in the first Test in Bengaluru. The second Test is scheduled to begin on Thursday in Pune.
Head coach Gary Stead confirmed that although Williamson is showing signs of improvement, he is not yet ready to return to the field.
“We’re monitoring Kane and he’s tracking in the right direction, but isn’t yet 100% fit,” Stead said in a statement issued by New Zealand Cricket.
“We’re hopeful to see further improvement over the coming days and have him available for the third Test.
“We’ll give him as much time as possible to get himself ready, but certainly continue to take a cautious approach.”
