Russian Missile and Drone Strikes Hit Kyiv
Russian missile and drone strikes hit Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine early Thursday, killing at least eight people across the capital and northeastern regions. The attacks damaged residential buildings, medical facilities and other infrastructure as emergency crews responded to multiple strike sites.
Ballistic Missiles Strike Kyiv Overnight
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the capital came under ballistic missile attack shortly after 1 am, with explosions reported across the city.
Falling debris and direct impacts caused damage in several districts, prompting firefighters and emergency teams to deploy to affected areas. At least two people were killed in Kyiv during the overnight missile attack and several others were injured.
The assault followed sustained Russian drone attacks on the capital throughout Wednesday, which had already killed two people and wounded dozens.
Maternity Facility Damaged in Russian Attack
The wider overnight assault also struck civilian infrastructure, including a maternity facility. Authorities reported damage to buildings and fires at several locations as rescue operations continued.
Russian forces have increasingly combined ballistic missiles with large numbers of drones in an effort to overwhelm Ukrainian air defences.
Ukraine has warned that shortages of missile interceptors are making it increasingly difficult to defend cities against repeated high-intensity attacks.
Ukraine Seeks Stronger Air Defence Support
The latest strikes come as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy continues diplomatic efforts to secure additional air-defence systems and ammunition from international partners.
Kyiv has also pushed for an agreement with Moscow to halt attacks on energy and civilian infrastructure.
Despite ongoing diplomatic discussions surrounding the war, Russia and Ukraine have continued carrying out long-range attacks, with no comprehensive ceasefire currently in place.
